Picea

The Latin name for spruce, most people think of the large trees but there are great dwarf varieties that serve the home landscape well.

Birds Nest
The most commonly found of the shrubby varieties.
Grows low to the ground with a 3ft. or more spread.

Pumila
Small rounded shape grows to about 3ft.  One of our favorites.

Little Gem
The tiniest of the dwarf spruces. Grows about 1 ft high and wide.  Another favorite.  It is so cute.  Looks like a little bun.

Globosa
Can be kept trimmed small or left to grow into a small pyramidal tree. I can't be sure of the size because ours has grown quite a bit since this has been taken.  It is around 6ft. now
.

Dwarf Alberta
Pyramidal shape. Grows 8-10ft. or maybe a little more with good soil. Can be kept small with pruning and is used for topiary.
