Creeping Phlox
Phlox subulata (moss pink)
Creeping
Phlox, spreading mounds covered in bright colored flowers, which last
about 4 weeks in spring, can be used for many situations.
Creeping Phlox, a favorite for slopes and banks, can also be used as
edging, in containers and rock gardens.
Growing 4-8" high it will spread about 4'. To keep mounds in check
shear after flowering. From my personal experience, the blue and white
varieties of Creeping Phlox are more vigorous spreaders than the pink
and red varieties of Creeping Phlox. If you only have a small area to
fill choose the pink or red varieties unless you want to divide often.
Creeping Phlox is easy to grow when planted in average, sandy, or loamy
well-drained soil in full sun. It will also grow in part shade but will
grow slower. Drought tolerant after it has been established. Hardy in
zones 2-8.
