Composting
Why do we compost?
We compost because we believe in gardening organically
and compost is the heart and soul of an organic garden. Organic gardeners
use materials that are close to their natural forms, not chemically
synthesized, highly concentrated fertilizers.
How do we compost?
There are many ways to make compost. On this page
you will find links to all sorts of information so you can make a decision
on which way is best for you. You can also find books on composting
and different types of compost bins.
We
have a simple setup and have numerous different compost bins around
the garden. Ours are made of wire fencing that is made into a
circle and then we just keep adding to them. A couple are for
just kitchen and garden scraps and we have two bigger ones we use for
grass clippings, shrub prunings and ornamental grasses that have been
chipped. Fasten the sides loosely together so that when you are
ready to use the compost you can just open them up for easier access.
You
may want your compost bins to look a little nicer and might be interested
